CIRCLE WAMPUM REPLICA

Made by Brad Bonaparte.

Fifty strings represent the fifty chieftainship positions of the Haudenosaunee Grand Council. Each string is attached to two intertwined strings that create the circle and they represent the strength and righteousness of Kayenerenko:wa, the Great Law. The people are in the middle protected by the leadership and the Great Law.

RAWHIDE DRUMS

Decades ago, and for a good number of years, Ray Fadden made stretched rawhide drums using round pasteboard containers with metal support rims. Occasionally he used round wooden containers. I recall that he also used a metal barrel on occasion. He used deer hides and cow hides stretched on top and bottom. He gave many of the drums away, and a number of them are exhibited at the 6NIM. One day, as I recall, he wondered if he could make a square drum. Attached are photos of some of his round drums, and one square one.
